Somehow we are already in the fourth year of #museum30, a little challenge I set up to improve my use of museum social media (find out more about the past challenges here).
The challenge begins on Nov 1st but you can join in whenever you are able!
This year the prompts are a little different, obviously so many of us are still working from home and may not have visited a museum for months. I have tried to make the prompts reflect this strange year whilst still allowing a space for all the weird and wonderful photos you all normally share.
The challenge is still the same, share one photo a day inspired by the prompt – you can use old photos from museums, get creative and do some drawings or just photograph the things in your everyday life!
If you didn’t participate last year or need a reminder of the challenge I’ve given a quick guide below.
What is it?
The challenge consists of a list of 30 photography prompts based around museums although you can interpret the prompts in any way you like. Some people chose a specific colour theme or illustrated their responses of the prompts – get creative with it, you don’t need to stick with photos!
When is it?
The official launch date is going to be the 1st November 2020, this means that the prompts line up with the days of the month. Don’t worry if you have found the challenge late, you can either choose to catch up, start from day 1 or jump in when you see a prompt you are inspired by.
How can I get involved?
To join me on the museum 30 challenge all you need to do is upload a photo to either instagram, twitter or both with the hashtag #museum30 so others can view your posts – in the description list the prompt for the day and maybe even why you chose that photo.
(If you want me to definitely see your post you can tag me in the photo @magnifyzoology on both Twitter and Instagram)
How can I see what others have posted?
Just follow the #museum30 on either twitter or Instagram to see everyone else’s posts for the challenge and maybe get some inspiration for your own photos!
Why did you create the challenge?
I have seen 30 day Instagram challenges for years and have always been interested in doing one but never quite found one that interested me. Since studying museum studies I became more aware of the use of social media in museum networks and have met and talked to different professionals around the world through twitter and Instagram.
I thought that a 30 day challenge would be a good way to get better at social media and since I couldn’t find a challenge that was tailored specifically to museums I decided to create one myself. I whipped up the graphics and prompts for the challenge, sharing it on twitter so others could participate too.
The aim of #museum30 is to provide a way for museum professionals, volunteers and enthusiasts to engage and share their passions, get behind the scenes of museums and promote conversations within the museum community.
Hopefully through undertaking the #challenge30 you will identify why museums are important to you and it will allow you to express your creativity!
